What Is the Pronounceable Word Generator?

It invents new words that do not exist but sound like English, such as sabellar, glitor or rupellan. They are easy to say and easy to remember, and because they are new they are usually still free to register. That makes them great usernames, gamer tags, project or brand names.

How to Use the Pronounceable Word Generator

  1. Sounds like: English words, or English first names for softer, name-like results.
  2. Readability: "Easiest to read" keeps only the simplest syllables, "Balanced" adds variety, "Creative" allows any readable shape.
  3. Length: choose the minimum and maximum number of letters (3 to 20). Use the same number twice for an exact length. From 11 letters, "Auto" builds the word from two readable parts (GlifinTraval), optionally joined by a separator.
  4. Optional: a starting letter or syllable, capital letters, or two digits at the end.
  5. Generate, then copy one word or all of them.

How Does It Work?

  • A letter-level Markov chain learned which letter tends to follow each pair of letters in about 11,000 common English base words (or 460 English first names).
  • Typical "pronounceable password" tools stop when the word reaches the length, which cuts the last syllable. Here every word is sampled at exactly the requested length with a natural ending.
  • Every candidate must follow English spelling patterns: valid consonant clusters at the start and end (br-, st-, -nd, -ck), natural vowel pairs, no triple letters, "q" followed by "u", and enough vowels.
  • Every four-letter window of the word must also occur in at least three real English words, so even new words only use familiar letter combinations ("Creative" allows one unusual window).
  • Real words, names and well-known places are rejected (checked against about 97,000 words), and so are offensive letter sequences.
  • Readability levels are calibrated separately for every length: "Easiest to read" keeps the simplest 35% of the candidates, "Balanced" 75%.
  • The syllable breakdown (ru·pel·lan) shows how each word is read.
